History
First Canadian Place has a rich legacy of standing above the crowd.
Developed by Olympia and York Developments and designed by acclaimed architects Edward Durell Stone and Bregman+Hamann Architects, FCP opened in 1975 as the tallest office tower in the Commonwealth. Today it remains the tallest office building in Canada.
FCP was innovative from its inception, incorporating many design, construction and engineering "firsts". The building was one of the earliest examples of structural tube steel construction, with double-decker elevator cabs and state-of-the-art mechanical infrastructure, including an enormous fresh air capacity. Though it pre-dated the computer revolution, it was built with vast additional electrical capacity. With its white marble exterior and reputation for excellence, FCP became one of the country's most distinguished business addresses.
